About Mike Barthel
Mike is a writer in Washington, D.C. He is at work on a book about Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A." for DUP's "Singles" series, as well as a speculative novel. His fiction has appeared in Fatal Flaw, the Offing, JAKE, and Tower. His music criticism has appeared in The Atlantic, the Village Voice, the Awl, Portland Mercury, Flagpole, and Idolator, and has been covered on NPR, the BBC, the CBC, and the Boston Globe.
Mike received a BA in creative writing from Oberlin, an MA from Syracuse, and a PhD from the University of Washington. He is a survey researcher focusing on technology and the media. His research for Pew Research Center has been covered in many major news outlets and cited in state and federal testimony and legislation.
